The Egg and Eye

Do you know what food is “egg-cellent” for your eyes? You guessed it: Eggs! Eggs contain many nutrients that are very good for your health. Lutein and Zeaxanthin are two nutrients found in egg yolks that can promote good retinal health and prevent macular degeneration, the #1 cause of blindness in the United States. They are the primary pigments found in the part of the retina responsible for your best vision: the macula. Eyes with less pigment have a greater risk of macular degeneration. Although you may have been born with eyes that are light in color you can increase retinal pigment levels by consuming foods containing lutein and zeaxanthin…like eggs!
