Cosmetic Contact Lenses
The doctors at SeaView Eyecare have helped many patients over the years with cosmetic irregularities of the eye. Unfortunately, there are a number of injuries and infections that can result in corneal scarring and light sensitivity.
Patients with these challenges can often be helped with soft contact lenses customized to limit the amount of light entering the eye and/or conceal scarring that may make patients feel self-conscious about their appearance.
There are a number of specialty contact lenses available that can block light and replicate the eye color of the other healthy eye. Some lenses utilize a multitude of small pigmented dots to create a natural-looking eye, while others are hand-painted by an artist to match a photo of the patient’s healthy eye.
Lenses can also be customized to provide a specified pupil size for a more symmetrical appearance or simply to improve comfort for patients with large, irregular pupils.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that this custom work requires patience. The fitting process typically takes anywhere from 2 to 6 months to complete. Once finalized, the contact lens design can be duplicated year after year.
